Four architecture drafting and design students and three mechanical engineering technology students, along with their program chairs, traveled by plane to Marvin Windows and Doors in Warroad, Minnesota, to tour the 30,000-square-foot facility. The facility includes a 6,000-square-foot Visitor Center and a state-of-the-art Training Center to train builders, architects and distributors who visit Marvin.
“The tour was extremely informative and interesting. After the tour, I can confidently say that their products are extremely high quality and worth investing in because of everything we saw on this trip,” said an architectural drafting and design student.
The students took part in an eight hour training and exploration of Marvin Windows and Doors technology, which included four classes along with two plant tours.
“We often take for granted the research and design process that goes into new and impressive innovation that make our world’s structures so beautiful,” said architecture drafting and design student Justin Shaar in reference to the trainings he experienced.
The group had the opportunity to take in window technology training and a tour of the Marvin Signature Series division of the manufacturing facility. Marvin trains more than 3,000 builders, architects and distributors each year.
“I was impressed with the creativity within the design coupled with the level of quality and speed of production,” said architecture drafting and design student David Eichler.
With miles walked and valuable knowledge gained, the group returned to the Warroad airport to travel back to the Twin Cities. This was a valuable trip that gave our students a firsthand look at how manufacturing companies operate on a daily basis, according to John Hartman, architectural technology program chair.
